RAIN FOREST  I  FLORA  I   ORCHIDS

Fauna

In comparison to the African fauna,  the animals on the south american continent are much smaller. Impressive is the diversity of its fauna.

In the remaining areas of the Mata Atlantica over 600 different kinds of birds can be found, like parrots, tucano, hummingbird, woodpecker etc. The biggest mammals beside the deer are the Tapir, the Ozeloth and the Jaguar.

Sometimes you can see armadillos, the south american species of the raccoon, different kinds of rodent like Paca and Cotia and the Capivara, the world´s biggest rodent which lives in the waters of the Pantanal.

The forest is also the home of different species of monkeys, which know very well how to hide themselves in the trees. Reptiles like iguanas and snakes (poisonous and non-poisonous), as well as many frogs are part of the forest too.
